Finally recovered from jet lag, our hero takes a 6-kilometer walk along the Isar and through Glockenbachviertel:

As the sun set, it found a gap in the clouds which I hope means tomorrow it'll come out for a while. You can see a little bit of it here on the Paulaner Brewery:

    I visited Munich back in October 1992 for a meeting of the American Astronomical Society's Division of Planetary Sciences.  It was a very enjoyable week, and I had time during the conference to see some of the sights.  Your photographs bring back good memories and make me think that I really need to go back to Munich.
    One incident always amused me.  It was the night before the start of the conference, and I was with a group of fellow astronomers looking for a place to eat.  We found a little restaurant in a side-street and went in.  The waitress, it turned out, didn't speak much English, and we spoke even less German.  One of the items on the menu was described with the adjective "hausfrauenart", which puzzled us, so one of my colleagues (now a distinguished professor of planetary science) asked the waitress.  She thought for a moment, then said brightly, "Like your mother makes."
    "Oh god, I hope not!" was his reply.  But I'm happy to report that we all ate very well that night.
