Last night, a dozen Ravinia Festival staff members joined about 50 members of The Apollo Chorus of Chicago to dedicate the renovated Hunter Pavilion at the Park. Ravinia spent $70 million renovating the Pavilion over the past 9 months, so naturally we sang the Anvil Chorus from Il Trovatore while wearing hard hats. Then we finished the dedication concert with "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana, which we rushed a bit at the end.
(Funny thing about music: we have to get it right 100% of the time. Not 95%, not 99%; 100%.)
Thus concludes the 154th Season of the Chorus, except for a performance next month at the Peninsula Music Festival of Mahler's 3rd Symphony, which does not include men.
Our season resumes on Sunday November 1st, with a performance of the complete Carmina Burana with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra on Saturday 6 March 2027. The Ravinia Festival's season begins this evening.
