Oh, Canada, what have you done? As of this morning, Winnepeg, Man., and Gaspé, P.Q., are in the same time zone as New York and Miami, and Dawson, N.T. is in the same time zone as Denver, two hours ahead of nearby Fairbanks, Alaska:

The sun rose this morning in Gaspé at 6:03 EST, in Winnepeg at 8:19 EST. in Dawson at 10:00 MST, and in Fairbanks at 8:40 AKST. (I should note that the sun rises in Dawson on Christmas at 12:10. Merry Christmas!)
One wag has created TimeZoneHell.com to give you an up-to-date display of what time is where right now.
You did it to yourselves, Canada.
Here in Chicago the sun rose behind the clouds at 6:24 CST, the earliest sunrise we'll get until March 3rd. The time change means the latest sunrise will be 7:19 CST (not 8:19 CDT) on January 3rd, which is tolerable, and means that it starts getting light before 7am all year.
For my part, the extra hour of sleep was delightful. I'll give it back in March.
