First heat emergency in several years

The National Weather Service issued a rare Extreme Heat Warning for Chicago this morning:

...EXTREME HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT /1 AM
EDT/ THURSDAY NIGHT...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values around
  105 expected each afternoon.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central, and
  northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

* WHEN...Until midnight CDT /1 AM EDT/ Thursday Night.

* IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during
  extreme heat and high humidity events.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Dangerous heat is now expected to persist
  through Thursday. Thunderstorms may begin to bring some relief
  from the heat for portions of northern Illinois by Thursday
  afternoon or evening.

The initial forecast of over-40°C heat indices was just for yesterday and today. Now the NWS predicts they will continue through Thursday, with overnight lows only reaching 26°C tonight and 27°C tomorrow night. Right now, the temperature at O'Hare is 33.3°C (92°F) with a dewpoint of 24°C and a heat index of 39.6°C (103°F). It's still going up.

Cassie doesn't seem to mind, but that's because our lunchtime walk was only about 10 minutes. We did a 50-minute walk a little before 7am, and it was still gross and muggy.

As for the other things blowing up, like the last SCOTUS opinions that included Justice Thomas (R) citing Plessy and Dred Scott in his rant against the black-letter words in the 14th Amendment (seriously!), I'll write something tomorrow. At the moment, there is a really annoying bug in the Edit page code that I am having trouble fixing.
