Lunchtime reading
AviationChicagoElection 2018EntertainmentGeneralGeographyHistoryParkerPoliticsRailroadsRepublican PartyTrumpUrban planningUS PoliticsWorkI didn't have a moment to write any code from 9am until now, so my lunch will include doing the stuff I didn't do in all those meetings. At some point I'll get to these:
- Dana Milbank acknowledges the sacrifices President Trump made avoiding the rain on his recent trip to France while James Fallows digs into whether Marine One can fly in the rain. (Yes, it can.)
- Princeton historian Julian Zelier points to an Indiana recount battle in 1985 as the genesis for what's going on now in Florida.
- Bruce Schneier commends California and other jurisdictions on forulating new IoT security regulations.
- SmartCitiesDive looks into how to fix Chicago's freight-rail congestion woes. (A friend of mine is working from home today because of this, indirectly.)
- The Atlantic's Derek Thompson says Amazon's HQ2 beauty contest should be illegal.
- Closer to home, a $75m renovation will start for the historic Uptown Theater in Chicago next spring.
- Sci-fi author Marka Older says it's a lie that we live in a democracy.
Now, back to writing code, as soon as I make yet another vet appointment for my bête noir.
