Darkest morning passes; tomorrow's sunrise earlier (07:20 EST)

Because of eccentricities in the earth's orbit around the sun, today’s sunrise is the latest all year for any observer in the Northern Hemisphere. Starting tomorrow and continuing until June 14, each day’s sunrise will occur earlier than on the day before.

Sunsets have occurred later each day since Dec. 8, for the same reason. This will continue until June 28.

Dave certifies in Visual Basic 5.0 (12:00 EST)

Your web designer took and passed Microsoft’s Visual Basic 5.0 certifying exam this morning. This means he has demonstrated a certain competence in Visual Basic 5.0, the programming language he uses most often.

The Visual Basic exam is the first of four exams Braverman will take between now and March. After passing a database exam (probably Microsoft Access 8.0) and two exams in Windows architecture, Braverman will earn the Microsoft Certified Solution Developer credential.

You always knew he was certifiable.

Believe it or not, a real, live, new quote has appeared on the site. Not only that, but also one of the older quotes—Mayor Daley’s famous utterance on police—has come alive thanks to the miracle of .wav files. Click here to hear it.
